What is an empathy circle? Inspired by Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication (NVC), we will each have three minutes to share authentically and vulnerably from the heart what is alive for us and then receive empathy for five minutes. Feel seen and heard. Develop skills for authentic connection
What is empathy? It is not advice or storytelling or “fixing”. It is helping dive deeper into our feelings and needs by making “empathy guesses”. Example: “I hear you talking about not being able to see your friends and family during this time of social distancing. Are you feeling sad and lonely because your needs for connection and companionship aren’t being met?” “yes, I’m having a difficult time with this. I want to be able to hug my grandma and my friends. I feel so alone.” “that must feel disheartening. It sounds like your touch needs are not being met and that you’re wanting some comfort. Is that correct?” etc.
After the empathy circle, we will have a mini NVC lesson.
